How Can Psychotherapy Be Helpful?
Have you ever felt depressed, stuck, unhappy, confused about your life or unsure about who you are? Most of us have at some point in our lives.
Psychotherapy is a process of learning about yourself and what is important to you, maybe for the first time. Therapy slows you down and helps you to notice what is going on and how you are feeling. It helps you to better understand who you are and to be more accepting of yourself.. Therapy can help you to see how you are being affected by the world and how to be yourself more genuinely and authentically.
I believe that our past affects who we are today and that how we act today is in part reaction to historical experiences. What may have protected or helped us in the past may not be as helpful in current situations, i.e. how we react to loved ones, how we feel about ourselves, how we don't feel safe sharing who we are with others. Living in a reactive way is not very gratifying. To live consciously means to respond to who and what we are from deep within ourselves, not react to the world around. This takes self exploration, reflection and discipline. This is where therapy can be helpful.
The goal of therapy is always to feel better. It can help you to have a more satisfying and fulfilling life, better relationships with others as well as with yourself, and freedom from the emotional chains that bind you.
